Taken from busy Mong Kok, this work focuses on the iconic neon signboards that punctuate Hong Kong’s urban identity. These luminous forms, suspended within tightly compressed architecture, become focal points within a city defined by spatial pressure and visual excess.
Surrounding structures press inward, collapsing depth and amplifying a sense of congestion, while fragments of the built environment fracture and dissolve across the surface. The neon signage, rather than simply illuminating the street, becomes entangled within this compression — both dominant and overwhelmed.
Through layered mark-making and material contrast, the work explores an urban condition where density, memory, and visual noise accumulate, producing a space that feels both vibrant and claustrophobic.
